The Highland Swing

What is the Highland Swing?

One of the most common questions we get asked is, “what is the Highland Swing?”. The usual reply is “well it’s a swing, a big one.”

The Highland Swing opened officially in September 2017 after rigorous testing and adjustments until we found the best experience for the customer. It’s definitely a swing, add in a massive drop which lasts around 3 seconds before the rope kicks in and you sweep across the river in a giant arch reaching speeds in excess of 70mph. The change in direction after the freefall is something that leaves your stomach behind and those who say “oh it’s just a swing” asking themselves “Was that a swing!?”.

The Highland Swing experience begins at the bungee office next to the Killiecrankie Visitor Centre. After checking in we harness you up then transport you down to the bridge in our minibus. There is viewing area below the bridge where friends, family and even your dog can watch.  It’s around a 5 minute drive (1 mile from the centre). The swing platform is on the underside of the bridge so you get to experience the daunting walk along the underside over to the platform. From there we get you attached to the swing, move the platform away so you’re left suspended 40 meters above the river before we release you into a giant arch.

After the initial giant swing follows a series of shorter slower swings where you can relax a bit more and enjoy the stunning view of the valley before you are winched back up to the same place you started.

We have had an increasing number of people who have experienced the bungee jump from the Garry Bridge who have returned to try out the swing and to many people surprise they have found it just as good if not a better experience than the bungee jumping. I guess it’s down to the individual so why not try it out for yourself?
